Highly recommend YFR Tree & Land Management. We had recently purchased our property in Grass Valley and were in a real time crunch — our FAIR Plan inspector had called out several trees requiring removal or trimming, and we needed the work done on a short timeline to keep our insurance in place. Matt came out promptly for the inspection and walked the entire property with us. What impressed us most was his willingness to talk us OUT of work we didn’t need. Another contractor had recommended trimming a group of trees at the front of our walkway, but Matt advised against doing it now — the trees were dry and would be better served by winter trimming. Since FAIR didn’t require it, he told us to hold off. He genuinely passed up billable work in the interest of the trees’ long-term health, which tells you a lot about how they operate. Matt was also clearly knowledgeable about the specific trees on our property — diameters, species, condition, and what each one actually needed. His bid came in competitive and included stump grinding on the trees being removed. On a short turnaround, the YFR crew came out and did the work. Among other things, they had to fell two pines very close to the house, which they handled safely and cleanly — no damage. The stump grinding was thorough. Other than a little sawdust, you’d never know the trees had been there. The remaining tree pruning was also done well. We would absolutely use YFR again and recommend them to anyone in the Sierra foothills dealing with tree work, especially FAIR Plan or defensible space compliance. Matt’s honesty and the crew’s skill made a stressful situation much easier.

The experience with YFR was outstanding. YFR crews worked 5 solid days and accomplished all items listed in proposal, including some hazard tree removal, selective small tree removal, mastication, mulching and improving roads accessibility. Matt and his crews kept me well-informed on what they were doing and were responsive to my input. I feel my land has been improved visually and in terms of defensible space. Working with Jenn and the YFR software was effective for completing the proposal, contract and billing. All in all a great experience.
