I asked for a quote from Cal North Forestry for removal of an oak tree in my front yard. They quoted me $1,500 to cut the tree and leave the wood in movable pieces (since we have a fireplace), so I agreed. They came out and spent the first day cutting the sycamore tree on the side of my house…wrong type of tree and wrong location. My original inquiry clearly stated oak tree in front yard. I have one oak tree… I called and spoke with Tom about what had happened, and he asked what they could do to fix it. I said they could cut down the correct tree for the price he quoted me. He said, “I guess that’s what we’ll have to do.” This was on a Friday. His guys that were cutting the wrong tree that day said they’d be back “in the morning,” but they never showed up on Saturday. Called, but no answer. I’m guessing they don’t work weekends, and it was just a misunderstanding. Called again Monday and left a message. I didn’t hear back. Emailed Monday as well. Received a response Tuesday morning that said he went by and wasn’t sure how the misunderstanding came about, and he said he’d contact me later that day. He did not. Called and emailed again on Tuesday with no response. In the meantime, the wood from the wrong tree disappeared, so I’m guessing they came and took it. Called Wednesday and was finally able to get through to someone. He said he was just about to get back to me which I’m not sure was true because I could hear him ordering chili fries. Odd time to return calls. He said he was not able to cut the tree down for the price he gave be because it’s a $2,700 tree and he would lose money doing it. I said that’s what he said he would do, but again said he couldn’t do it. I asked how much it would cost to get the correct tree down. He said $2,700. I asked if he would take $2,500. He agreed since they made a mistake. I was told it would be about a 2-day job. They started Tuesday, March 16 or Wednesday, March 17 (can’t recall). They cut almost all except the trunk in those days. However, they said they were waiting on the weather to get the remaining down safely. They didn’t complete it until Friday, April 2. There were many clear, non-windy it could’ve been done. Maybe that had other jobs, but I’m not sure. I wasn’t informed. Between the beginning and end of the job, all the limbs/wood sat in my front yard leaving pretty big holes in the yard. Also, as mentioned above, I was told the wood would be left in movable pieces. Much of it was, but I was left about a dozen pieces or so that are 3.5-4 feet high, 3.5-4 feet wide, and about 1.5-2 feet thick. There’s no way these are movable. It’s been 6 months, and they are still there because I have no idea what to do with them and physically can't move them. I’ve had other companies come to look at the wood about possibly hauling it away, and they quote quadruple digit prices which I’m not paying. Each one has commented on how poorly the tree was cut looking at the stump. The stump that was left (as we agreed) was not cut even close to flat on the top and about halfway down, there’s a cut about halfway across as if they were going to cut it, but changed their mind. The good news is the tree is down, so we don't have to worry about branches falling, but I would not recommend this company.
I was having trouble getting a problem solved with them . I didn't know they were going through some things. I would like to retract my review and say I appreciate that they made it good. I told them I would retract my bad review and I was sure that Tom would thank me and say thank you for doing it. I guess they had my money so goodby and we don't need any more of your business.
Great crew. Did a great job trimming and cutting eleven trees front and backyard. Cleaned up nicely when finishing the job. Very reasonable. We will definitely be using Cal North Forestry again.
Give these guys a call if you want your trees dealt with very quickly. They had a massive oak tree removed in a very short period of time despite big rains and horrible weather. They did well, and took care of me during an emergency situation. If you need tree removal I highly recommend them.
Had used them several times on my property in Shingletown. Great crew and reasonable prices. Would definitely call them back.
